Information for employees on how to receive text message alerts

  • At the Houston Independent School District, communication is one of our top priorities. We are now using text messaging to stay in touch. This service is helping HISD quickly notify staff members about district or campus emergencies or closures, as well as other important events.

It’s easy to sign up. It just takes three simple steps:

    1. Text “YES” to 68453. In response, you will receive a confirmation that says “You are now registered with the SchoolMessenger notification service.” If you decide at any point that you do not want to receive texts, simply text “STOP” or “NO” to 68453. If you want to opt back in, just text “YES” to the same number. It takes effect immediately.
    2. Make sure you are able to receive texts by checking to see that your cell phone is listed with the district. Go to myHISD (employee portal) and login to OneSource. Go to Employee Self-Service under Personal Information, and enter your cell phone number there.

Please note: You must have texting included in your cell phone service plan, or you may be charged by your cell phone company.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email connected@houstonisd.org.
