F.A.Q.
Where can I request G/T testing for my child in grades KG-1st or 3rd-5th grade? You can pick up a paper application from the reception desk, download the paper application from our website, or apply via the Parent Portal.
Do I need to submit a request for my 2nd-grade child? No, all 2nd-grade students who have NOT been identified as G/T are universally tested. You do not need to submit a request for testing.
Do you offer testing for Pre-K students? We do not offer G/T testing for Pre-K students. If you have a child entering Kindergarten for the upcoming school year, testing is done through the Office of School Choice. You will have to complete the application from their website and they will provide testing information.
When does testing take place? 2nd grade testing will take place the second week of October. For non-2nd grade, testing will take place December 1-2, 2023.
When will I receive the results? The district anticipates results for students by late February.
What happens if my child does not qualify for G/T this year? If your child tests and does not qualify this year, you can request testing again next year. G/T testing is also offered in middle school.
What happens if my child qualifies for G/T, then we have to withdraw from HISD? Keep your documentation so if you do return to the district, you can submit that to the G/T coordinator at the enrolling campus to get your child's G/T status reinstated.
What's the name of the test? How can I prepare my child for the G/T test? The test is a secured test so we cannot disclose the name of the test nor provide test prep recommendations.
