Head Coach Richard Burriss - Contact Coach Burriss on Teams
Coach Burriss is a native Houstonian that grew up in the Oak Forest area. He and his older brothers attended Oak Forest Elementary, Johnston Middle School, and Lamar High School. After high school graduation, Burriss went on to play baseball at McMurry University and helped win a conference championship in 2004. After graduating from McMurry, Coach Burriss went on to coach baseball at St. Pius High School from 2009-2011 and helped lead the team to 2 state championships and 2 district titles under Adam Massiatte. During this time, coach Burriss was also an assistant coach to the Great Jack Schultea for five years with the Men’s AABC Northwest Wildcats. The Wildcats held a winning record of 175-10 within a five year period. Coach Burriss eventually found his home at Waltrip High School as a Special Education teacher and a member of both the varsity baseball and football staffs in 2011. In his first 6 years as an assistant, Coach Burriss helped both baseball and football reach the state playoffs each year, won 2 district titles in baseball, and helped Waltrip's football team achieve their first undefeated season in school history in 2017. Burriss was recently named Head Baseball Coach and led the Rams to a 16-6 record with only 1 loss in district. The Rams were 2018 Co-District Champions and his hard work and dedication earned him Coach of the Year.
