    Karen Harris has dedicated more than two decades to the field of education, serving in various impactful roles that highlight her commitment to student success and academic excellence. For the past seven years, she has led Cunningham Elementary School as its principal, fostering an environment of growth and achievement.

     

    Harris began her educational career as a teacher at Regina-Howell Elementary School in Beaumont ISD. She later continued her teaching journey at Bonham Elementary School in HoustonISD, where her dedication and expertise propelled her into leadership roles. At Bell Elementary School, she served as a Teacher Specialist, where she pioneered a comprehensive K-% campus-wide Guided Reading system, laying the foundation for what would later become the Literacy by 3 initiative. Beyond her roles in the classroom, Harris has actively contributed to the professional development of fellow educators. She has served as a Baylor Master Teacher, a University of Houston Mentor, an HISD Mentor Teacher, and a curriculum writer for reading and science in both Houston ISD and Beaumont ISD. Her influence extended to Milne Elementary School, where she served as an assistant principal and interim principal, playing a pivotal role in implementing an academic system that successfully lifted the school out of Improvement Required (IR) status. Prior to her current role as principal, Harris served as the assistant principal at Cunningham Elementary for one year. Harris holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education Degree in Administration, both earned from Lamar University. Her extensive experience and passion for education continue to inspire students, educators, and the wider school community. Her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to student achievement have been instrumental in driving the school's continuous improvement.
