On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to Longfellow Elementary School, where we cultivate minds, hearts, and creativity through academic excellence, social-emotional learning, and fine arts. I am a proud product of the Houston Independent School District, and the students hold a special place in my heart. Before being chosen to be principal, I was a 4th grade teacher for ten years. Three of those years were at Longfellow. I have also had the privilege of serving as a Teacher Specialist and Principal Apprentice. I received my bachelor’s degree from THE Texas A&M University in College Station and a master’s degree from the University of Texas in Arlington. As the principal of Longfellow, I am driven by a vision of education that goes beyond traditional boundaries and fosters high expectations, critical thinking, and inclusivity. My educational philosophy is rooted in the Frederick Douglass quote which states, “It is easier to build strong children than to fix broken men.” Every day, I strive to create an environment where each child feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. To each stakeholder, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we will make this academic year one of growth, achievement, and memorable experiences.

    Warmest Regards,

    Ms. Akpan
