Weapon Detection System

Bellaire High School is scheduled to begin implementation on Tuesday, February 11th. The three current student entrances at Door 1 (closing at 8:45 am), Door 6 (closing at 8:35 am), and Door 14 (for buses only) will remain in place.

To prepare, tomorrow and Monday we will practice our entry procedures for weapons detection systems with our students. Please note that all WDS sensitivity will pick up laptops. That means that laptops must be removed from bags or backpacks prior to entering the building. Starting tomorrow, students will hand their laptops to a staff member at the WDS who will take it around the WDS and then hand it back to the student. Please remind your child that tomorrow and Monday students need to be prepared by having their laptops out and ready to hand to a staff member upon entry. Doing so will facilitate quick entry into the school. I would also like to share that we are aware that curling irons and some other metal objects get picked up, but not cell phones. Please speak with your child about not bringing certain items to school that will get picked up by the WDS as it will delay their entry.

I know there will be some questions about other items that may get picked up by the WDS. The purpose of this email is to inform you of the practice that will take place tomorrow and Monday before implementation of the new weapons detection system (WDS) on Tuesday, February 11th to facilitate a smooth entry into the building. Our goal is to move students through quickly and as best we can so that students can get to class on time.

More communications will be sent out before Tuesday. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work through this new procedure together.

Michael Niggli, Principal
