What is a "Magnet Program"?

The Houston Independent School District, in order to meet the diverse needs of Houston students, offers special programming at school campuses located throughout the district. These Magnet School Options allow students to develop their special interests and talents in addition to the regular school curriculum. These Magnet School options include many areas of emphasis.

Acceptance to a Magnet School involves an application process. Students who are accepted into Magnet Programs are offered transfers from their zoned school to the Magnet School. Transportation is also offered to Magnet students who live more than two miles from the Magnet School.
