  • HOUSTON ISD DIGITAL RESOURCES AND ONLINE DATABASES

    These digital resources are available to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators in Houston ISD.  Campus access is available through any district computer; access to these resources outside of Houston ISD campuses requires a username and password.  Contact your campus librarian or Janice Newsum for information and handouts regarding logins, passwords and training for the digital resources.

    BrainPop
    provides various resources supporting many areas of the curriculum.  Content is aligned to academic standards and easily searchable with the online Standards Tool. BrainPop educator provides training resources and lesson plans. The products in the subscription are BrainPop, BrainPop Jr. and BrainPop Español. Login is required from school and home. Contact your campus librarian or Janice Newsum to get the user name and password. This resources is funded by the HISD Special Education Department.
    Discovery Education
    is a digital video-based learning resource from Discovery Education. Educators gain on-demand access to 50,000 content-specific segments from 5,000 full-length educational videos- including more than 1,000 new videos in subject areas including foreign language, secondary math, science, and language arts. This resource requires a unique login for each user. You may obtain a login kit from your librarian or your tech coordinator.
    EbscoHost
    provides access to an integrated service including reference databases, online journals, books, specified subject areas such as business, science, biography, literature and consumer health.  Online assistance and support can be found here.

    Follett eBooks are digital editions of print titles with advanced capabilities that accelerate learning.
    Gale Cengage
    provides access to several products including Literature Resource Center and Student Resource Center Gold. Literature Resource Center provides students  with access to traditional literary reference works, critical information on authors and their works, and current journal articles.  Student Reference Center Gold provides biographies, essays, full-text magazines, glossaries, historical overviews, photographs, audio files to answer research needs.   For online support and assistance, click here.

    NBC Learn
    For more than 80 years, NBC News has been documenting the people, places, and events that shape our world. NBC Learn, the educational arm of NBC News, is dedicated to making these historic stories, images and primary source documents available on-demand to teachers, students, and parents. Original videos and archival news stories are correlated to state standards, aligned to more than 25 K-12 collections, and reported by some of the most famous journalists in broadcast history, including John Chancellor, Tom Brokaw, Tim Russert, Brian Williams, and many others. 
    NetTrekker
    organizes web sites around the K-12 curricula. All sites are evaluated for academic integrity and age appropriateness before they are considered. Users can search by grade level, key word, or curriculum area. Resources are aligned with the state standards including lesson plans and learning exercises.
    Sebco eBooks
    Sebco eBooks are digital editions of print titles with advanced capabilities that accelerate learning.  Access directions can be found on the Summer Reading Program page.
    Teaching Books
    makes available original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators, audio excerpts of professional book readings, guides to thousands of titles and a wealth of multimedia resources on children's and young adult literature. For online training, click here.

    is a comprehensive database that allows teens (and those who care about teens) to research health-related issues important to their well-being. It’s both a research/report tool and a self-help resource.
