    About Barbara Pierce Bush Elementary

Barbara Pierce Bush Elementary, located in the heart of Houston, Texas, opened its doors mid-term in 1992. Named after the esteemed Barbara Pierce Bush—First Lady, literacy advocate, and the wife and mother of two U.S. Presidents—the school upholds a commitment to academic excellence and community involvement. With a diverse and cosmopolitan student body representing over thirty-five languages, Bush Elementary is a vibrant reflection of Houston’s multicultural landscape.

    Academic Excellence

Bush Elementary serves 766 students from Pre-K through 5th grade. Recognized for academic excellence, the school has 74% of its students scoring at or above proficiency in both math and reading. The diverse student population is 76% minority, with 25% considered economically disadvantaged. Ranked #88 among Texas elementary schools, Bush Elementary is dedicated to preparing students for success in higher education and beyond.

In addition, Bush Elementary supports diverse learners through its Special Education Department, offering tailored programs like Preparing Students for Independence (PSI) and Skills for Learning and Living (SLL). Each grade level includes certified teachers in English Language Learning (ELL) to meet the needs of students for whom English is a new language.

    Community Involvement and Parent Support

A hallmark of Bush Elementary is its supportive and active parent community. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) raises funds and donates thousands of volunteer hours each year. From building an outdoor nature center and a track to enhancing the school’s technology infrastructure, the PTO’s efforts create a richer learning environment for all students.

Barbara Pierce Bush Elementary exemplifies the power of collaboration between educators, parents, and students in fostering a thriving educational community that celebrates diversity and strives for excellence. Together, we are committed to preparing every child for success in an ever-evolving world.
