Our School's Namesake
-
Sharon Goldstein Halpin was an exceptionally dedicated teacher in the Houston Independent School District. A student of HISD through the ninth grade, she attended Peck Elementary School and Cullen Middle School. She graduated from Memorial High School an attended the University of Texas, where she completed her degree with a major in elementary education.
Mrs. Halpin taught at Burnet Elementary School from 1972 to 1976, taking a leave of absence when her daughter was born. She returned to the classroom in 1977 as a kindergarten teacher at Travis Elementary School where she continued to teach even though she had been diagnosed with cancer. She was named Vanguard Coordinator in the fall of 1987, allowing her to continue to serve her children as her days became more difficult in her fight against her illness.
Sharon Goldstein Halpin reached out to others and felt that her mission was to support and educate children. It is an honor for HISD to name one of its schools after one of its very finest teachers.
This early childhood center was dedicated to Sharon Halpin's name on January 10, 1997.
