Name That Book Competition comes from a rich tradition that originating at River Oaks Elementary School as a campus competition. However, the program became so popular that the Department of Library Services took over the organizational component and opened it up to all HISD campuses. 

Burrus Elementary School began participating in 2007. Five scholars are selected from both the 1st and 2nd grades. They are assigned six books to read and write down & memorize different quotes from the passages. The scholars are quizzed at random over the months prior to the competition as part of the preparation for the final competition with the other HISD schools. For participation, each scholar received medals and trophies for their hard work.

Over the years, our scholars have done excellent in the competition.
