    ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES:

    • Car Riders / Walkers Tardy to School – Report directly to the Attendance Office.  Once your Lanier ID is scanned, you will receive a tardy pass to proceed to class.  T (tardy) will be reflected on your attendance.  Multiple tardy codes on your attendance will result in disciplinary action.
    • HISD Bus Riders Tardy to School – Report directly to the Attendance Office and write your name in the Late Bus (yellow) binder on the counter.  Once you have printed your information in the binder, you will receive a late bus pass and go to class.  Attendance will be updated accordingly.
    • Absent from School – Submit a note from the parent or organization to the Attendance Office.  You have THREE days to submit a note upon your return to campus.   Your attendance will be coded EX (excused).
    • Personal Illness (3 or more consecutive days) – Within THREE days of the student's return, please submit a note from a doctor's office/hospital to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded EX (excused).
    • Doctor’s Appointment (ALL DAY) – Within THREE days of the student's return, submit a note from the doctor's office to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded EX (excused).
    • Doctor’s Appointment (PARTIAL DAY) –  Parent must report to the Attendance Office, show proper identification, and sign the Parent Sign-Out form.  Office staff will request the student for departure.  Upon returning to campus, the student must sign in at the Attendance Office, obtain a pass, and go to class.  Within THREE days of the student's return, submit a note from the doctor's office to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded MD (Medical).  This code does not count against your school attendance percentage.
    • Religious Holy Day – Within THREE days of the student's return from the Holy observance, submit a note from a parent or Religious Institution to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded REL (religious).  This code does not count against your school attendance percentage.
    • Court, Government, Legal Absence – Within THREE days of the student's return, submit a note from the government office to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded GOV (government).  This code does not count against your school attendance percentage.
    • Early Departure – Students WILL NOT be called out of class after 3:35PM.  The parent must report to the Attendance Office to request the student, show proper identification, and sign the Parent Sign-Out form.  The student will be called from class.  Within THREE days of the student's return, submit a note from a parent or doctor's office to the Attendance Office.  Your attendance will be coded EX (excused).  If a student goes to a medical office (doctor, dentist or therapist), court, or a government office (DPS, Social Security or Immigration) and still attends school on the same day, the student will receive an official code which does not count against his or her attendance.
    • Early Departure (Illness) - Students are NOT to call parents to pick them up.  If a student is ill, he or she must go to the clinic and a parent will be called by an adult if they need to be picked up.  Within THREE days of the student's return, you are still required to submit a note from a parent or doctor's office to the Attendance Office.  A parent note will be coded EX (excused), and a doctor’s note will be coded MD (medical).
    • Field Trips – Students do not need to provide a note for missing classes / school due to a Lanier field trip.  Students will be counted absent, but the attendance code will be updated to FT (field trip).  This code does not count against your school attendance percentage.

    ADDITIONAL NOTES AND FAQs:

The Attendance Office appreciates parents calling via phone to inform us of a student’s absence; however, we still require a note once the student returns to campus.

Parents and students are encouraged to check their Gradespeed accounts to view their own attendance records.  You may log on using www.houstonisd.org/psc

A note may be submitted for a car rider, but traffic is not a Texas Education Agency (TEA) acceptable reason for being late to school.

HISD will only allow religious codes for the observance of a Holy Day.  This does not include weddings, Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, baptism, or any other celebration that is not considered a Holy Day.

Signing a student out from the attendance office does NOT equal an excused absence.  A note must be submitted for every absence within THREE days.
