• Weekly Updates from Mrs. T Chen (WK26.3: 3/23-3/27)

    Good morning dear parents,

This is certainly not a spring break that any of us would have expected.  I hope that you’re healthy and managing to cope - please know that I am thinking of you and missing your child very much!  As we teachers are self-training ourselves online to see what online tools might work for our learning communities, we are also waiting on school administrators to make school wide policy. MIMS staff will have an online staff meeting next Tuesday so I am holding my weekly objectives by then.

Here are some of the things you could do to prepare before we roll out our online learning:

    1. Log in to Clever. Please see below for Mr. Ying’s instruction.
    • How to have Home Access #1:
      • Open a web browser (preferably Chrome) and access the Hub (Clever) at houstonisd.org/hub
      • When prompted with the Houston ISD Login Service Screen, enter:
      • Your Child’s Username: SXXXXXXX@online.houstonisd.org
      • (XXXXXXXXX is student ID number)
      • Your Child’s Password: XXXXXXXX
      • (“X” is the student’s 8-dgit birthday. ex: May 24, 2003 ---> 05242003)
      • HUB login instructions: https://www.houstonisd.org/hubinfo
      • Click on the tab for Digital Resources. (You might have to click on “More” and drag down to Digital Resources.)
      • Next, scroll down and click on Imagine Language and Literacy, Imagine Math, Imagine Math Facts, Digital Literacy or myON.

    • How to have Home Access #2:

For Mrs. Worden and Mrs. T. Chen’s students, you could simply scan the QR code in your child’s binder to log in Clever. Thank Mrs. Worden for hand-taping each of these QR code when kids were still in school!

****If you don’t know your child’s student ID, please Dojo message to inquire their homeroom teacher.

    1. Join Mrs. T. Chen’s Google Classroom with student’s school email address

In order to streamline communication and make things easier for you, I’ve created Google Classroom for each of our homerooms. There is nothing there yet. I will add all materials and assignments for at-home learning later this or next week. You can access Google Classroom from a computer, tablet, or phone.

    1. Join Mrs. T. Chen’s Quizlet Class

    1. Stay tuned on Class Dojo for any updates from teachers

During school closure, Class Dojo will also be the best way to reach me for questions about learning since I am expecting my work mail be full of emails from district, school and other teachers. I hope your message won’t be sinking in the deep mailbox.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we sort all of this out! Take good care!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. T. Chen

  • Weekly Updates from Mrs. T Chen (WK16: 12/16-12/19)

    Good morning dear parents!

Here comes the last week of the first semester. Time flies, I know! Our first-grade kiddos have grown so fast and learnt so much in the past four months. In Chinese, they now are much more familiar with Chinese character structure and stroke orders. They also know how to look up a word in the dictionary to find its stroke order. They can read and understand vocabulary in different sentences as well as make new phrases. They can also sing and chant lots of Chinese songs with clear pronunciation! In math, they now have better sense for numbers up to 100. They can skip count by many ways. They can also add and subtract within 10. What a great accomplishment! On top of all these academic progresses, they also learn to treat each other nicely and respectfully. Day by day, our first-grade little friends become more knowledgeable and have a warmer heart to include others.  Mrs. Worden and I would like to thank all the parents for what you have done for your kid(s), your generosity in supporting our wish lists and volunteering when we need you.
