Frequently Asked Questions:
Students are admitted into the HISD Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program only after they have been identified through gifted and talented testing. All students who are identified as gifted and talented will retain their G/T identification label while enrolled at a HISD campus. No re-testing is required for middle school or high school.
- If your child is identified as G/T by HISD, and has remained in HISD, your student will retain his/her G/T status through high school. No additional G/T testing is required.
- If your child has been identified as G/T by HISD, but you left the district, email the qualified HISD G/T matrix to your campus G/T coordinator, and the G/T label will be reinstated. No additional G/T testing is required.
- If your child has been identified as G/T by another district, email all G/T documentation including a qualified matrix, test scores, and letter of acceptance to your campus G/T coordinator. The District G/T committee will evaluate the documentation and determine your child’s G/T status with HISD. No additional testing will be required if the district G/T committee approves a G/T label transfer. G/T testing will be required if the district G/T committee does not approve a G/T label transfer.
- If your child has not been identified as G/T by HISD or another district, G/T testing will be required.
