Shanica Mitchell has been appointed as the principal of Thomas Middle School, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track records in school transformation. With 15 years of dedicated service in Houston ISD, she has taught multiple grade levels from Pre-K through 7th grade and served as an Instructional Specialist. Most recently, she led Young Elementary as principal for five years, where her leadership fostered significant academic growth and improvement.
Ms.Mitchell is deeply committed to turning around underperforming schools and creating high-impact learning environments. Under her instructional leadership, Frost Elementary consistently achieved three or more TEA distinctions, for four consecutive years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Education of Administration from the University of Houston. With a passion for equity, instructional excellence, and student success, she is dedicated to driving sustainable change at Thomas Middle School.
