Please bring a copy of the following documents with you: 

• Parent/Legal Guardian's Picture ID/Driver's License/Passport
• Immunization Records
• Parent/Legal Guardian's Proof of Residency (mortgage statement, lease, light bill, water bill, gas bill or property tax receipt)
• Student's Birth Certificate
• Student's Social Security Card (if applicable)
• Student's School Records from the Last School Attended: Final 7th & 8th Grade Report Card/Transcript - the final report card must say, "PROMOTED," 8th grade STAAR scores, AP College Board Scores (if applicable) and other school records (IEP/504/TELPAS - if applicable).

Due to time constraints, please have the documents in order and do not bring additional documents (i.e. awards and certificates). 

**The dates in June are for dropping off documents, and it is not intended for students to meet with the counselor for academic advising.**

If you are unable to drop off documents during the timeframe listed above, then please email the documents to your student's respective counselor (i.e. school records) and Ms. Niaves (i.e. all other documents listed above).

Please make sure the documents emailed are clear, with your student's name in the subject line and contained in one email - please do not send multiple emails with documents attached, as this could hinder your student's enrollment at DeBakey.

Course Selections in May 2025

Please check the school website in May for all details about Course Selection as it will be entirely online. Link to the Counselor’s Corner of our school website: 

Below are the steps for Course Selection Process:

• May 9, 2025 - course selection video posted on next tab (please watch the video in its entirety).

• May 12, 2025 – course selection Google Form opens (begin selecting courses).

• Update **May 27, 2025 @ 2 pm – course selection form closes.

If you have any questions after watching the course selection video, please email or call your student’s counselor and allow a 24-48 hour response (school days), as this is an extremely busy time for our counselors.

Note about HISD Course Planner: HISD is still working on updating the correct courses for each school in the Course Planner. Since the Course Planner has not been fully updated yet for the courses offered on our campus, DeBakey students will continue to follow the steps above for Course Selection for the 2025-2026 school year. 

At this time, we are asking for parents and students to hold all questions regarding course selections until May 12, 2025.

The counselors are currently working with rising sophomores, juniors and seniors and are unavailable to respond to incoming freshman questions.

Please make sure to view the video and note that the course selection closes on May 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm thus giving ample time for questions to be answered.

Students who are moved off the waiting list after May 24 or students who do not complete their course selection, will receive a generic schedule based on their middle school report cards. Please note students have the first 10 days of the fall semester to request schedule changes.
