Nestled in the heart of the East End, the Lantrip Environmental Science Magnet Program began thirty years ago with a commitment to incorporating science as a core component of the curriculum. The goal of the program has always been to develop a student’s natural interest in the environment while students study an integrated curriculum that meets and exceeds Houston ISD and state requirements. Students develop a respect for the environment and are equipped with knowledge and skills to make sound environmental decisions.
A vegetable garden, greenhouse and recycling center are in place to integrate the curriculum by having students involved in activities that relate the individual with his environment. The goal of the Lantrip Environmental Science Magnet Program is to provide hands-on studies of life, physical and earth sciences. The Program aims to support the intellectual development of students to become inquiring, knowledgeable and compassionate young people who will continue to be lifelong learners. Students in the Environmental Science Magnet Program also participate in field trips, science expositions and exhibitions, invention conventions, and environmental community service projects throughout the year.
A new opportunity at Lantrip: all students will be participating in our school-wide Urban Harvest gardening program. The Lantrip Environmental Science Magnet Program is growing hearts, minds and a “greener” world…one child at a time.
