The school nurse will screen all students in pre-k, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades as well as any students new to HISD for vision and hearing.  If your child fails the screening test, a referral will be sent home.  It is your responsibility to see that your child goes to an appropriate facility to follow up on this.  If you do not have insurance or cannot afford to take your child to an eye doctor or hearing specialist, the school nurse will assist in finding resources for your child.
