• Volunteers in Public Schools

    VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME! Please note that H.I.S.D. requires a background check for all volunteers. Parents to be a volunteer, please follow the process below:

    • Register on-line atwww.houstonisd.org. You will be asked to create a user name and password.
    • Bring your driver’s license or other approved identification to Ms. Wrenn in the school office.
    • Please see Ms. Wrenn in 3 weeks to check on approval.
    Parent involvement is appreciated, welcomed, and encouraged at Emerson.  Any parent who has time to assist with any school function is encouraged to contact the classroom teacher orMs. Wrenn.  Parents are encouraged to participate in school activities such as tutoring students in reading or in math, helping with a special school-wide event, traffic monitoring, cafeteria monitoring, assisting in the library, or assisting in the classroom.  All visitors to the school and school volunteers are required to sign-in at the office.

    The Houston I.S.D. Community Engagement Department coordinates more than25,000parent, business, and community volunteers, who perform tasks that support and enrich education in HISD schools. Members of the acclaimed Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) program serve as tutors, mentors, teacher partners, speakers, security patrols, chaperones, interpreters, cafeteria monitors, and helpers in libraries, media centers, clinics, and offices. HISD values its parents and volunteers.
