Ms. Gibson
First GradeConference Periods: 12:55-1:25Email: rgibson5@houstonisd.orgPhone: 713-726-3634I am very excited to start my second year of teaching at Parker Elementary this year! I attended Parker from kindergarten through 5th grade and worked in the after school care program since I was sixteen years old. I guess you can say I am “home grown”. I graduated from the University of Houston Clear Lake in December 2013 with a Bachelors degree as an EC-6 Generalist. I am so excited to get to teach reading and language arts in first grade this year! I look forward to sparking the love of books for my students the way the teachers I had at Parker did for me. I love children’s and young adult literature. My favorite series is Harry Potter and the Magic Tree House, and my favorite author is Tomie dePaola.

Another Great Week
Posted by Reaby Gibson on 9/12/2014Hey guys!We have had another great week here in room 13! The homework is slowly getting better which makes me very happy, however; I still had about 7 students not bring their homework back yesterday. Please keep working on that with your children as it is great practice to get them ready for their weekly assessments. Every week, your student will have a unit of spelling words and a list of vocabuary words that they will be responsible for knowing on their Friday assessments. Please make sure your student is studying these everynight to get prepared.I also want to remind you that September 30 from 6-6:30 and 6:30-7 is our open house for third through fifth grade. The Open House sessions will be very data driven this year and hopefully help you to see how your child has been doing in their academics.Lastly, I still have a lot of the first-of-the-year forms that I have not gotten back from some students. I especially need the reduced lunch form from EVERY child whether they qualify for reduced lunch or not! This is very important! Also, I will be sending PTO forms home today with your students. The PTO is doing a big push for sign-ups and will provide a popsicle party to the first class to reach 100% participation. I currently have 9 out of 23 participating. Your students want those popsicles! :)I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend,R. Gibson -
School Supplies
Posted by Reaby Gibson on 9/3/2014Hi parents! Just a reminder that your student needs to be bringing their school supplies to school everyday. I know of several students who still do not have their blue binders and dividers for my class and their red spirals for Ms. Quinn's class. Please please please make sure they have these as soon as possible because we do use them every day! Thank you, Ms. Gibson -
First Week Down!
Posted by Reaby Gibson on 8/31/2014Hey guys! We had a great first week in room 13! We mostly did procedural stuff this week, but I did get one grade on fiction vs. non-fiction. Just a small reminder that I do still need all of the Code of Student Conduct sheets (sent home the first day of school) back with all the required blanks filled in. Also I must have a free lunch form (pink) completed and returned whether you qualify for free lunch or not. Lastly, please make sure you complete the sight word list with you child that was sent home Thursday/Friday ASAP as I need it for my records (this includes Ms. Quinn's homeroom). I have really enjoyed getting to know your students a little bit this week and look forward to getting to know each other better everyday. Please don't hesitated to email me with any questions or concerns. Thanks, Ms. Gibson -
