    STEM Town USA

The Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GHWCC) and Houston East End Chamber of commerce (EECOC) partner with several schools to present the program STEM Town USA. Cornelius Elementary was selected as one of the schools to participate in this program.

This program is design to increase exposure of third grade girls to math and science through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) concepts, improve grades and graduation rates, and encourage girls to pursue STEM careers.

The program is a series of monthly after-school sessions with each designed to take approximately two hours. Each month focus on a different business or aspect of the community along with the science and math that supports it. The students will participate in monthly offerings of data analysis, hands-on experiments and design activities. At the end of the school year the students will market their town at the Community Showcase, competing against other schools for “best place to live” award.

In our first session, we built our dog house and designed our town. In our second session, we created shampoo for our dog. We created a wonderful fragrance for our shampoo.
