The mission of the Career and Technical Education Department (CTE) is to empower students with the academic and technical skills needed to strengthen the economic and social foundation of the city of Houston and beyond.
Bellaire High School offers the following CTE courses:
Advanced Animal Science
Designed to prepare students for careers in the field of animal science, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry standards. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. This course examines the interrelatedness of human, scientific, and technological dimensions of livestock production. Instruction is designed to allow for the application of scientific and technological aspects of animal science through field and laboratory experiences.
Practicum in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
Designed to give students supervised practical application of knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experiences such as employment, independent study, internships, assistantships, mentorships, or laboratories.
Agricultural Mechanics and Metal Technologies
Designed to be prepare students for careers in agricultural power, structural, and technical systems, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge; acquire technical knowledge and skills related to power, structural, and technical agricultural systems and the industry; and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, industry certifications, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings. This course is designed to develop an understanding of agricultural mechanics as it relates to safety and skills
Automotive Technology I & II
Two year , 2 hour elective. Recommended for 11-12th Grade.
A NATEF approved training program offering advanced knowledge of the function of the major automotive systems and the principles of diagnosing and servicing these systems. This course allows students to reinforce, apply, and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems, and settings. Instruction emphasizes use of repair information. Instruction includes safety and career opportunities.
Business Information Management (BIM)
Students will apply hands-on skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Specifically students will learn and master the suite of Microsoft Office Software and earn certification that is recognized by potential employers.
BIM-Dual Credit
In partnership with HCC, students will take the course here at Bellaire High School and receive 6 hours of transferable college credit (3-hours in the Fall; 3-hours in the Spring). Students will learn all the objectives in Regular BIM and earn additional certifications in Microsoft Office.
Business Law
Students learn the origin of Law in America, the components of Civil and Criminal Law, and how to interpret case studies and legal terminologies
Pre AP Computer Science
Problem Solving Using the JAVA programming language. Preparation for the Advance Placement Computer Science Course
Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts begins with the fundamentals of the Art of Cooking and the Science of baking. It includes management and production skills. Lab based course. Students are encouraged to join FCCLA for culinary competitions
Digital Interactive Media-Dual Credit
In partnership with HCC, students will take the course here at Bellaire High School and receive 6 hours of transferable college credit (3-hours in the Fall; 3-hours in the Spring). In the fall semester students are introduced to computer graphics design including basic concepts of desktop publishing and graphics designed. Students are trained in industry standards using Adobe graphic design programs. They are given intense hands-on training and experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. In the spring semester students are introduced to the components of multimedia. Training includes sound editing in Soundbooth, video editing using Adobe Premiere, animation creation in Flash, and website development using Dreamweaver. Emphasis is on conceptualizing and producing effective multimedia presentations.
Equine Management
Designed to prepare students for careers in the field of animal science, students need to enhance academic knowledge and skills, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. Suggested animals which may be included in the course of study include, but are not limited to, horses, donkeys, and mules.
Fashion Marketing
Offered in the spring semester for ½ credit. Students who would like to be considered for the work program must take this class. Fashion Marketing focuses on how basic marketing principles apply to a range of activities, from textile and apparel production to methods of distribution and promotion of fashion merchandise. These functions require solid academic skills in math, reading, and language arts, as well as foundation skills such as critical-thinking and problem solving. The class is designed for upperclassmen. Because we have partner with the TJ MAXX /Marshall Corporation, students are offered positions with the company after they have completed this course.
Hospitality & Tourism
Students will study restaurants and food beverage services, Travel and Tourism, Recreation and Amusements and Attractions, and Lodging and Resorts. Students are encouraged to join FCCLA for Hospitality competitions
Introduction to Business, Marketing, & Finance
Students are required to take the course for ½ a semester. This course will introduce students to the world of business and help to prepare them for their economic roles of consumer, worker, and citizen. Also assist the student with consumer decision making, prepare them for future employment, and help them perform their responsibilities as good citizens.
Livestock Production
Designed to prepare students for careers in the field of animal science, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. Animal species to be addressed in this course may include, but are not limited to, beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry.
Nutrition and Wellness
Lab based course. Students will prepare healthy food products and allows students to make informed choices. Course focuses on tourism, education and human and health sciences. Students are encouraged to join FCCLA for culinary competitions.
Practicum in Marketing Dynamics
Enables students to understand and apply marketing, management, and entrepreneurial principles; to make rational economic decisions; and to exhibit social responsibility in a global economy. These students also are placed in training positions for part-time employment in the private sector. Students must be at least 16yrs. old and classified as an upperclassmen. Prerequisites: must have taken one of the following:

Principles of Agriculture

To prepare for success, students need to have opportunities to learn, reinforce experience, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.
Principles of Transportation-Distribution & Logistics
One year, one hour elective. Recommended for 10th Grade.
An entry level course designed to provide general knowledge of theories relating to automotive systems. Alternative fuels and Hybrid theories will be covered. Students will understand the interaction between various vehicle systems, the logistics used to move goods and services to consumers, and the components of transportation infrastructure. All areas include safety and career opportunities.
Small Animal Management Class
Prepares students for careers in the field of animal science, students need to enhance academic knowledge and skills, acquire knowledge and skills related to animal systems, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. Suggested small animals which may be included in the course of study include, but are not limited to, small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, avian, dogs, and cats.
Sports Marketing
Offered in the fall semester for ½ credit. Students who would like to be considered for the work program must take this class. Sports and Entertainment Marketing teaches solid academic skills such as math, reading, and language skills, as well as foundation skills such as critical-thinking and problem solving skills and key workplace competencies, such as responsibility, self-management, leadership, and integrity. This class is designed for all grade levels.
Statistics Risk Management
A new math course where the students learn to connect algebra to what is going on in life. Students will understand finance in mathematical terms and gain confidence in their ability to manage money.
Veterinary Medical Applications
Designed to prepare students for careers in the field of animal science, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to animal systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings. Topics covered in this course include, but are not limited to, veterinary practices as they relate to both large and small animal species.
Web Design- Dual Credit
Instruction in designing and developing web pages that incorporate text, graphics, and other supporting elements using current technologies and authoring tools.
This includes- Information architecture- organizing the content on a web page
- User interface- visual presentation of a website
- Site structure- coding a website or using an editor to create a website
- Navigation- how users move through a website
- Layout
- Colors
- Fonts
- Graphics
- Working with browsers
- Coding in HTML and CSS
- Using Dreamweaver and Photoshop
All of these are combined with the principles of design to create a front-sided website from concept to completion.
Wildlife, Fisheries, and Ecology Management
Designed to prepare students for careers in natural resource systems, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to natural resources, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings. This course examines the management of game and non-game wildlife species, fish, and aqua-crops and their ecological needs as related to current agricultural practices.
