    Clifton's Literacy Goal

Clifton’s literacy program is guided by HISD's Literacy in the Middle foundational beliefs.

In the Houston Independent School District, literacy is defined as the ability to read, write, speak, listen and think effectively.

Literacy in the Middle recommends that students be given choice in relevant and engaging texts, along with ample guided and individual practice interacting with challenging texts and practicing academic discourse.

Clifton teacher PLC groups are designed to meet these goals by providing teachers an opportunity to meet and plan with all grade level content areas. Clifton Middle School believes strong literacy skills help make students life-long learners who can compete and advocate for themselves and their communities. Our goal is to grow our students as readers, writers, and communicators!
