We are honored that you are considering Durham Elementary School International Baccalaureate Magnet for your child.  Durham’s IB PYP (Primary Years Programme) nurtures independent learning skills while encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning. For the past fifty years, Durham students have been exposed to working collaboratively to create an atmosphere conducive for learning though empowering students to acquire the IB learner profiles and utilize them throughout their lifetime.  Durham students enjoy the best of the IB opportunities in the general education classroom with our exceptional teachers daily through inquiry based and project based work.  We also are able to offer IB through our PE, Music, Spanish, and Library Enrichment classes that our students attend daily once a week.  We help students to develop IB learner profiles in order to be a successful adult in the future such as: Principled, Knowledgeable, Open Minded, Reflective, Communicator, Risk Taker, Thinker, Inquirer, Caring and Balanced.

The Magnet program at Durham is truly a school-wide and community wide initiative.  We encouraging students to be worldly thinkers and have the community to encourage them to do so.  We nurture students by facilitating their leadership skills through units that incorporate Social and Emotional instruction.
