This Elective Showcase section of our website is designed to spotlight a selection of the outstanding classes available to our Chargers at Pin Oak. These electives offer a glimpse into the diverse and enriching opportunities we provide, aiming to cater to a wide range of interests and passions. Please note: Our elective offerings are refreshed annually to stay current with student interests, teachers, and resource availability. Consequently, the availability of specific electives may vary from year to year, and enrollment in a particular class cannot be guaranteed.
About the Courses
Band
In this course, students will explore the world of music through the study and practice of various wind and percussion instruments, such as the flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Through a combination of instructor-led lessons and practice, students will develop their skills in rhythm, pitch, tone quality, and musical expression. They will also learn how to read sheet music and gain an understanding of basic music theory concepts such as melody, harmony, and dynamics. Through rehearsals and performances, students will gain experience in playing as a group and developing their ensemble skills, such as listening to each other, blending, and following a conductor. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in playing their chosen instrument and be able to perform a variety of musical pieces with confidence and musicality. They will also have an appreciation for the power of music to create emotion, tell stories, and bring people together. Audition is required for intermediate and advanced levels.

Orchestra
In this course, students will explore the world of orchestral music through the study and performance of stringed instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Students will learn how to read sheet music, play with proper technique and posture, and develop their skills in music theory and ensemble playing. Through rehearsals and performances, students will gain experience in following a conductor, working collaboratively with others, and expressing themselves through music. They will also study the history and cultural significance of orchestral music, and gain an appreciation for the role of music in our lives and in society. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in orchestral performance and be able to play a wide variety of musical pieces with confidence and musicality. Orchestra will be available at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Audition is required for intermediate and advanced levels.
