  • Houston ISD Magnet Programs

    HISD has been an open-choice district for more than 40 years. This means that students are not limited to their neighborhood — or zoned — schools, but may apply to the district’s many magnet programs. These include language-immersion schools, Vanguard/GT schools, STEM programs, Montessori, International Baccalaureate, dual language, fine arts, and more.

    How to Apply

    Option 1: You may apply online using the ChooseHISD site. When completing the application, please review the entries to include: BCM Biotech Acad at Rusk.

     

    Option 2: You may apply in person by contacting our Magnet Coordinator, Mr. Jordan Pulu, to schedule an appointment and receive information about registration requirements.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Our school is open enrollment and lottery-based. This means that students do not have to have specific grades or test scores to qualify for the lottery.

     

    Registration Process and Requirements

    1. The parent/guardian will visit Houstonisd.org and select “Enroll Now”. If the parent/guardian has an existing account with HISD, they may log in. If not, they are required to create an account in order to apply.

    2. When searching for our school, ensure you locate "Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at RUSK".

    3. Once the parent/guardian applies and is accepted, an email notification will be sent offering the parent to accept the seat at our campus. After accepting, the parent will need to submit a utility bill. If any other pending document is needed, the school will either request from parent or previous school.

     

    If the student is applying from outside the district, the steps above will be completed, as well  as submission of the documents below to the campus:

     

    Birth Certificate
    Social Security
    Utility Bill, Lease
    Parent/Guardian Proof of Identification (ID, Passport)
    Shot Records
    Last Report Card
    Home School Documents (if applicable)
    STAAR Scores
