The goal of HISD is to ensure that every student has access to a rigorous instructional program required for college and career readiness. HISD has a standards-based curriculum that is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and to STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness). For more information, please see Curriculum and Instruction. A common standards-based curriculum guarantees that every HISD teacher has access to resources necessary to plan, teach, and assess instruction and student learning effectively. Parents can support our school by making themselves familiar with the expectations of their child’s teacher. Below are some resources that can help enrich your child’s education.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
During these next few weeks, elementary students will have access to project-based learning (PBL) assignments to support home-based learning. These PBL plans will be available for both core foundation ELA, math courses. The PBL assignments will help students review the required learning standards (TEKS) for the school year.
Beyond the PBL student plans and the HUB master course lessons, you will have online access to Imagine Math, Imagine Language and Literacy, MackinVIA, MyOn (in elementary), and the other HISD library and research web sites. All these are available to students once they log onto the Houston ISD HUB. http://www.houstonisd.org/hub
MIDDLE SCHOOL
During these next few weeks, middle and high school students will have access to project-based learning (PBL) assignments to support home-based learning. These PBL plans will be available for both core foundation (ELA, math, science, and social studies) and core enrichment (fine arts, HPE, and LOTE) courses. The PBL assignments will help students review the required learning standards (TEKS) for the school year.
In addition, high school students will have access to their HUB master courses. These teacher-facilitated master course lessons continue the learning already underway in classes before spring break and are aligned to the TEKS.
