Deshonta Everett has been selected as the new principal of Anderson Elementary School. With 12 years of experience in education, Everett previously served as an assistant principal at Welch Middle School for two years. Before joining HISD, he started his career as a middle school English teacher in Dallas ISD and served as an instructional coach, secondary ESL specialist and academic principal in the Crowley and Irving Independent School Districts. Everett holds a bachelor’s in English from Jackson State University, a master’s in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University, another master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas.

Shanica Mitchell, Principal

Shanica Mitchell has been selected as the new principal of Young Elementary School. Since joining HISD nine years ago, she has served as a dean of instruction at Frost Elementary School, as well as a teacher and instructional specialist. Under her instructional leadership, Frost earned three or more TEA distinctions for four consecutive years. She holds a bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a master’s in Educational Administration from University of Houston. -

Michelle Dean has been selected as the new principal of Frank Black Middle School. Dean has 30 years of experience in education with the last 20 years in HISD. Dean came to Frank Black Middle School from Bellaire High School where she was a science teacher. Dean began as the 7th grade Dean of Students at Black Middle School in 2016 where she worked to develop and enhance many of the programs there. Dean participated in HISD’s PCDO, and the Northwest Area’s Aspiring Leader’s program. Dean graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and with a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in Educational Leadership.

I have been Headteacher at Hashley England Primary School for over 5 years now. It only seems like yesterday that I started, but things have changed a lot during that time as we have grown from a one-form entry school of 210 children to a growing school of 480 children.
