Contributing to one's social environment is an essential component of social awareness. Students learned that no matter who you are, everyone can help others. Helping children understand the importance of helping others builds the foundation for social contributions as they see the benefits of helping themselves and others.

Here are some ways you can help your child learn to help others: 

• Create a list of things your child can do to help at home such as set the table, water the plants, or play with a younger sibling while an adult cooks dinner. 

Cree una lista de cosas que su hijo/a puede hacer para ayudar en casa, como poner la mesa, regar las plantas o jugar con sus hermanos menores mientras un adulto hace la cena.

• When out in your neighborhood or community, encourage your child to thank people when they help him or her.

• Provide your child with a chores chart with a few age-appropriate tasks to do that will help around the house to help your child practice acting as part of a team.

• Praise your child when you see him or her encouraging siblings or friends.

  • Encourage your child to cooperate with family members, especially siblings. Encourage your child to respect other members of the family, share his or her ideas and opinions, use positive words, and participate and contribute.

  • Encourage your child to be a good friend and look out for others.
