1. What is being done about the metal gates at the front of the building?
The gate leading out to the Bering parking lot is not broken. Maintenance looked it over and determined it is working properly. We do have staff monitoring the gate during high traffic times such as dismissal. During other times, brightly colored signs are posted in the area to remind people that it is not an exit. We also remind parents regularly to check in with the Front Office during celebrations, ceremonies, etc...
2. What improvements in safety are we working on right now at THR?
We are working with Risk Management and Maintenance on looking at perimeter fencing and gates.
3. Why doesn't THR have metal detectors?
Installing metal detectors is not the direction HISD is going currently.
4. What mental health/anti-bullying programs do we currently have for the students?
During the morning announcements, we cover bullying as part of our SEL daily moment. Additionally, students are always able to speak to administrators, and teachers, or middle school students can report it via See Something, Say Something, which is posted on the Front Page under Quick Links.
5. What is the hotline for reporting emergencies?

6. How often is THR inspected for physical compliance, regulations, and codes (plumbing, walls and ceilings, electrical, doors/windows, etc.)
Risk Management, Maintenance, the Fire Marshall’s office, and administration regularly sweep the campus for physical compliance and codes.
7. Are there random (locker) checks for weapons, drugs, etc.
According to HISD’s Student Code of Conduct, “School officials are empowered to conduct reasonable searches of students and school property when there is reasonable cause to believe that students may be in possession of drugs, weapons, alcohol, or other materials (“contraband”) in violation of school policy or state law.”
