• Course Description

    Chemistry is an introductory course preparing the student for further studies in chemistry in college. It is directed

    toward explaining the composition of matter. Emphasis is placed on chemical principles and their application, problem

    solving, and the development of laboratory skills.

     

    Physics is an advanced level science class that satisfies the high school graduation requirement of a physical science class. The physics curriculum includes interactions of matter and energy, velocity, accelerations, force, energy, momentum and charge. Students will be challenged to apply their knowledge of the laws of physics to solve physics related critical thinking problems.

    Grading Scale

    Performance Grade: Homework (10 Points), Quizzes (20 Points), Labs (50 Points), Exams (100 Points)

     

    At the end of a cycle, the points that the student earned will be added up to provide their total amount of points, and divided by the amount of assignments. This will give the student’s final grade. 



    Science Binder

    Students will keep a binder for the entire school year.  In this binder, students will organize their notes, handouts, diagrams, drawings, lab reports and much more.  It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with the science binder at all times.  A grade will be taken on the science binder. Should a student lose their science binder they will be responsible for replacing their notes and coming to tutorials to redo all previous work.  

     

    Attendance and Participation

    • Tardies:  Tardy is defined as not being in the student’s assigned seat and working on the DO NOW when the bell rings. Parents will be notified for habitual tardiness. Tardies can negatively affect the student’s grade on the TIMED (5 min) DO NOW at the beginning of the class, which is a component of the student’s grade.

    • Absences:  It is the student’s responsibility, not Mr. Mallory’s, to check the absent day assignment folder. If the student has any individual concern with how to complete the assignment, they should contact Mr. Mallory for assistance. 

    • Late Work:  If a student does not turn in an assignment on time, the student may turn in late work for up to 70% (up to two days). After two days of the student missing their assignment, a 50% will be the maximum that they may receive for the assignment. After five days, the student will receive a zero for the assignment. 

     

    • Restroom Procedure: The restroom policy for Mr. Mallory’s class is that the student may go to the restroom a maximum of three times per cycle. It is the student’s responsibility to go to the restroom before or after class. After the student uses their three opportunities per cycle, they may not go to the restroom again until the next cycle commences. 

    • Cell Phone Policy: Students will not be allowed to use their cell phones during class unless Mr. Mallory specifically states they can. In regards to an emergency, please inform the main office for the message to be relayed to the student. If the student knows that they are expecting a phone call or message, it is their responsibility to let Mr. Mallory know so he can grant permission for the student to use their phone.

    • BE PROMPT to class EVERYDAY.

    • BE PRODUCTIVE by ALWAYS trying your best in this class. Make an effort and not an excuse.

    • BE POSITIVE…encourage your classmates.  Name calling and bullying will not be tolerated.

    • BE POLITE… disrespect towards your teacher, your peers, yourself, and the classroom property will NOT be tolerated.  

    **STUDENTS MUST ABIDE BY ALL SCHOOL RULES AS WELL.**
