    EMPOWERING FAMILIES THROUGH FAMILY-CENTERED PROGRAMS

Knowing the importance of a positive family-centered environment, Young Scholars Academy philosophy is grounded in this belief. We provide opportunities for social, emotional, physical and intellectual development in a family-centered setting.

Our curriculum is designed to stimulate growth of the whole child through a balance of guided and self-directed activities. Each child is given the opportunity for individual development and exploration through an environment that is creative, stimulating and nurturing.

    OUR GOALS

Young Scholars Academy offers opportunities for each child to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially while becoming aware of their surroundings and abilities. This is accomplished through carefully planned activities, which stimulate the child's natural curiosity and aids each child in the development of an excellent foundation for creative learning. Each age group, from infants to eighth grade, youth participate in family-centered activities.

    OUR OBJECTIVES

Young Scholars Academy creates an environment that fosters the development of the whole child.Children develop in the areas of trust, self-confidence, curiosity, sensory-motor skills, social-emotional skills, initiative and persistence, language, problem-solving, creativity and imagination, reasoning, and critical thinking.
The mission of Young Scholars is to provide high quality, family-centered early care and education for children in a safe and nurturing environment through a program of differentiated, rigorous inquiry so that scholars may compete in a global society. Our focal goals are:
    • Goal 1: Provide rigorous, inquiry-based instruction in a safe and nurturing environment.
    • Goal 2: Support families through parent involvement and outreach opportunities
    • Goal 3: Support teachers with resources needed to carry out mission.
    • Goal 4: Maximize community partnerships

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Young Scholars is located in downtown Houston, Texas at 1809 Louisiana Street. It is currently the only public school program in downtown Houston. Young Scholars opened its doors as a child development center on May 15, 1996 for infants six (6) weeks through Pre-kindergarten. It is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Additionally, Young Scholars holds a Four-Star rating under the Texas Workforce Solutions, Texas Rising Star Program. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs were added in August 1999. Shortly after, first through eighth grades were added.

Providing public education in a small, “private-school” type atmosphere is a Young Scholars hallmark! Many children enter our child development program and remain through elementary and/or middle school. Parents enjoy having the option of their toddler and elementary school-aged children on the same campus. All scholars receive a state-of-the-art education that is rigorous and individualized from a team of highly qualified, dedicated teachers. Young Scholars believes that the success of a child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development stems from customized-active learning opportunities rather than the “one-size-fits-all” approach. Embracing the belief that children’s experiences during early childhood not only affect their later functioning in school, but also, have life-long effects. Our program provides optimal environments and opportunities for the growth and development of the whole child.
