  • Johnston MS student places second in TX Renaissance Festival art contest

    Hannah Martin, a seventh-grader Johnston Middle School, won a silver medal for her submission in the ‘School Days’ art contest sponsored by the Texas Renaissance Festival last fall.

    Her artwork, entitled “Texas Unicorn”, placed second out of 339 entries received from students across the state. It will be auctioned off to benefit Texas Children’s Hospital.

  • CFS officer to guide department and oversee new bond projects

    In this week’s “I am HISD,” which features district students, graduates, and employees, the Officer of Construction and Facility Services (CFS), Robert L. Sands Jr., talks about his recent move to the district, taking on a leadership role, and the future of CFS.

    The recent passing of the 2012 Bond proposal has given a green light to new construction throughout the district. Where is CFS focusing its energy?

  • Trustee Anna Eastman Elected President of the HISD Board of Education

    Trustee Anna Eastman was unanimously elected 2013 president of the Houston Independent School District Board of Education on Thursday.

    Eastman, who was elected to the board in 2009, pledged to create an environment of “healthy, spirited, and respectful debate” with a focus on raising the level of academic achievement for all students.  Eastman said she will make a priority of ensuring that more HISD students graduate prepared to succeed in college.
