The MPVA Theatre program consists of three different tracks: Acting, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre.
Acting- consists of traditional performance-based classes emphasizing physical and vocal technique as well as acting methods. Students have extensive in-class performance opportunities. Students explore the styles and genres of theatrical performance from various periods of theatre history. Students in the acting program also have numerous after-school performance opportunities.
Musical Theatre- students develop the acting, singing, and dancing required of musical theatre’s triple threat performers. Classes focus heavily on developing the body physically and vocally for performance. Students explore the evolution of musical theatre, from its origins on Broadway in the 1940s to today. Students have multiple in-class and after-school performance opportunities.
Technical Theatre provides students with a behind the scenes look into theatrical production. Students are given hands-on experiences building: scenery, costumes, and props, stage managing, and programing lights and sound for MPVA Theatre productions, as well as performances/concerts for other magnet areas.
