Welcome to Pershing Choirs!
-
The Pershing choir program is made up of three levels: 6th grade, intermediate, and advanced. We sing music in a variety of styles and languages in choir. Choir students work together as a team to learn and perform music. We are a performance-based class with after-school performances and concerts. The Pershing choir is an award-winning program that has performed as an invited choir at TMEA, consistently achieved sweepstakes at UIL concert and sight-reading, and has multiple students who are awarded spots into TMEA All-Region Honor Choir every year.
6th Grade Choirs
In the 6th grade choirs, students learn to read music and learn the foundations of good choral technique. This class is open to all 6th graders – no experience needed. Students compete in 6th grade choral festival and are given the opportunity to participate in solo and ensemble.
Intermediate Choirs
The intermediate choirs are open to all seventh and eighth grade students who wish to continue their musical pursuits beyond the sixth grade or perhaps have no prior singing experience. In intermediate choir, students will work to strengthen sight-reading skills and overall understanding of music theory. Intonation, rhythmic accuracy, and emotive interpretation of musical selections will be the focal points for the year.
Advanced Choirs
The advanced choirs are open to 7th and 8th grade singers through audition. Members are strong singers, confident sight readers, and experienced ensemble members who represent Pershing at TMEA All-Region Honor Choir, UIL concert and sight-reading, solo and ensemble, and various other events during the school year.
