70 students advanced state finalist at the UIL Film Festival in Austin on Wednesday, February 26, 2025! Our JY Cinema/HCC Dual Credit program has two finalist films: Switchin’ Classes (Drama) and The Circle of the Storm (Documentary). The scholars worked collaboratively on these films. We are excited! This is a historic moment for JY Cinema—our first time with two films competing in two different state categories! That means your child been apart of creating one of the top six films in the entire state of Texas (and the only school in the Houston area). Jack Yates will receive 2 state plaques, and your child will earn a prestigious UIL state medal – the exact same medal our legendary football and basketball programs received for past state championships!
