    HOMECOMING 2024

Last October 30, 2024, both teams from Burbank Middle School and Fonville Middle School were at Barnett Stadium waiting to start their game. It was to be the much awaited Burbank's Homecoming Game, but the weather had other ideas. Earlier that day, we had seen lightning strikes due to a storm, and it didn't stop. After a two-hour wait, officials determined that it would not be safe for any of our students to venture out in the weather and the game was called off. It was a great disappointment, but it was the only decision that could be made. The safety of all our students is the number one priority for all of us!

However, the fact that the game was not held also meant that the traditional Homecoming King and Queen were not crowned either! Since all the candidates had been named and had already done their publicity, the selection and crowning took place in Burbank's auditorium two days later, on November 1, 2024. This event was organized by our Magnet Coordinator, Ms. Amanda Vasquez. Students were allowed to come into the auditorium during homeroom so that they could cheer the candidates. Ms. Vasquez called them one by one, reading a brief biography of each as they moved forward accompanied by their parents:

Sydney Brazier is an athlete who has played multiple sports, such as volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Her future college plans include attending UCLA for a major degree in Engineering and Technology to pursue a career in architecture.

Kameron Hunter plays defensive end for the school football team. His goal in life is to play for the NFL and to buy his mother and sister a paid-off home for them to live.

Symone Carter's school activities include dance, cheerleading, and basketball. She would like to attend Texas Southern University to do cheer, dance, and cosmetology.

Pedro Mares plays quarterback for the BMS football team. He plans to attend Waltrip HS and the University of Houston in the future.

Isabella Palacios has participated in cheer since 6th grade and is involved in the Ballet Folklorico. She plans to attend Waltrip HS and hopes to study marine biology to help marine life.

Cesar Ramirez plays wide receiver and defensive back in football, and has played basketball as well. His future includes playing college football and basketball as well as studying engineering.

Eva Ruiz is on the cheer school soccer team. She plans to go into the military, and go to college to become a police officer. She plans to repay her parents for all they have given her.

Drake Schexnayder plays quarterback for the school team. He plans to play college football at LSU and make it to the NFL.

Lily Swinburne has participated in cheer since the 7th grade. Her future includes attending high school and later college to study nursing.

Esteban Villanueva plays middle linebacker for the school football team. His future may see him attending college to obtain an engineering or business degree, or perhaps attending a trade school to study welding.

Once everyone was presented, then Ms. Vasquez announced the Runner Up King and Queen:

    Esteban Villanueva Sydney Brazier

                                 Esteban Villanueva                            Sydney Brazier

After they received their recognition, then came the big moment when the King and Queen were announced:

    Kameron Hunter  Eva Ruiz

                                Kameron Hunter                                Eva Ruiz

Congratulations to all the participants, and especially to our runner-ups Esteban Villanueva and Sydney Brazier and most especially to our new King and Queen: Kameron Hunter and Eva Ruiz!
