    Dia de los Muertos

During the last week of October 2024, our students, parents, and teachers got together to create the altar that commemorates the "Dia de los Muertos", or the "Day of the Dead". This "altar" is festive and colorful, as well as full of food and mementos meant to honor the memory of loved ones. As is customary, this year's altar was on display in the four-corners section of the C hall in our school. Besides holding the photos and mementos in remembrance of our local family members, this time the public figure that was honored was Roberto "Chespirito" Gomez Bolaños, a well-know Mexican comedian famous for his character of "El Chapulín Colorado", among others.

This altar is also accompanied by a Parade of the Day of the Dead ("Día de los Muertos"), presented by our Las Aguilas de Oro folkloric dance troupe under the direction of Dr. Mary Velasquez. The "Día de los Muertos" parade is a very typical and traditional activity meant to commemorate and honor the dead. This parade represents a blend of Mesoamerican ritual, traditional religion, and Spanish culture. Families welcome back their deceased relatives for a little while, remembering their lives with food and drink and a celebration. This year, the parade began in front of the school and made its way to the cafeteria via Bauman St.
