Burbank Middle School Drumline 2015
Under the dedicated direction of Mr. Job Espinoza, Burbank Middle School's Drumline participated in the "High Noon:Battle of the Drumlines" competition which was held at Sam Houston High School last March 29, 2015. Burbank's Drumline has twelve members and this was the first year Burbank participated in the competition. Most of the othe drumlines participating had between thirty and forty members, but that didn't stop our kids. They faced the challenge with aplomb and determination and their hard work was rewarded with the Second Place Trophy, Middle School Division!
This competition was sponsored by Mr. Epraim Sánchez, drum instructor at Sam Houston High School. It encompasses three levels: Elementary, Middle, and High School. This year was the tenth anniversary of the competition, which brought teams from all over the city as well as from out of town. Each team must put together a presentation that must last between five and ten minutes. Our team played five different cadences, including one that is currently played by Texas Southern University and their Funk Train Drumline. This fact no doubt impressed the judges, especially because it was performed with excellence by a small middle school team such as Burbank MS.
The winners in the Middle School Division were:
1- Maynor Middle School- Austin, Texas
2- Burbank Middle School- Houston, Texas
3- Stevenson Middle School- Houston, Texas

Our Drumline Team practices in the afternoons. It has become an important part of our Electives, participating in all the Family Nights, Band Concerts, and all aspects of student life such as Homecoming and STAAR Rallies. We are very proud of how far our Drumline has come in such a short space of time. With their committment to hard work, we know that they will continue to be successful for many years to come!
