• The Marek Construction Level 1 Certificate Program

    Austin HS students taking classes in the Manufacturing, Welding and Construction Pathway have the opportunity to take free Dual Credit classes starting in their 11th grade year.  Students will complete five Construction related HCC courses over a two-year period, 11th and 12th grade year. Students completing the program will earn an HCC Construction Management Technology - Construction Helper Level 1 Certificate during the spring of their 12th grade year.

     

    This program is in partnership with HCC and Marek Brothers Construction.

    Program Highlights:

    • Learn about the construction trade from Marek Brothers, an industry leader while earning a free college course credits from Houston Community College.
    • Learn skills including, but not limited to, drywall installation and finishing, framing, drafting and design, roofing and more!
    • Opportunity to work in a paid internship with Marek Brothers ($13 hourly) during the Summer between 11th and 12th
    • Transportation from Austin HS to HCC Southeast will be scheduled and provided by HISD
    • Earn the following certifications: HCC Level 1 Certificate – Construction Helper General, NCCER Drywall Level One Certificate, NCCER Drywall Level Two Certificate, OSHA 10 Construction Certification
    • Opportunity to work for Marek Brothers after graduation

    How do I sign up*?

    1. Start taking Pathway classes in 9th grade
    2. Attend interest meetings during Spring of 10th grade year
    3. Complete HCC and HISD forms and return to dual credit office (No TSI testing required)
    4. Complete ApplyTexas application for HCC

    *Note: Student attendance, grades, credits earned and STAAR scores will be reviewed to determine final eligibility
