    Present

    Bill Buck- Principal

    Attendance

    - If students are not coming 10 days- showing that the student will not pass the 3rd grade reading test
     

    - There is a whole new department in HISD that is focused on attendance

    - Mr. Buck said that we need to make sure that we are following up after students are absent

    - Need to make sure we make 98.1 for attendance this year because we were 98 this past year

    - Mr. Buck said that on Teacher’s Dashboard you can see how many absences there are and the absent totals.
     

    Safety

    - Ms. Walker said that Dismissal is going well.

    - Miss Garson said that there will be a Safety Patrol meeting tomorrow afternoon.

    - Safety patrol will be morning and afternoon and will be released at 3:15PM

    - Mr. Buck said that security guards are being interviewed this week so we should be able to hire someone soon.

    - Mr. Buck said that even walkers should have their numbers on them so that they go with the correct person and it is easier for the teacher to match up the numbers.
     

    Activity Funds

    - Mr. Buck is concerned that there is nothing left in the courtesy committee budget.

    - He said that we need to collect the money so we have some in the funds
    .

    Observations

    - Mr. Buck said that observations are starting Monday, September 17th.
     
    - He said that Observations are done first, then walk throughs.
     

    Construction

    - Mr. Buck said that everything is getting cleaned out

    -Teacher boxes should be ready on Monday

    - They will be replacing unit ventilators

    - Classes will be displaced for 3 days as the unit ventilators are replaced.

    - Eventually they will need to do the ventilators in each hallway so one hallway will have to be moved to another hallway while the other is being worked on. Mr. Buck said that we haven’t figured out how that is all going to work out yet, but it will be done.
     

    Discipline Referral Form

    - Mrs. Adair presented a new discipline referral form to the committee

    - The form has a section about relationship building to see what the teacher has done prior to the incident to try to build a positive relationship with the student.

    - There is another spot on the form to mark  if the student has used the safe place in the classroom and if so how many times has it been used

    - Every teacher should have a safe place and it should be a place for a student to be able to safely cool down and calm their emotions

    - Mrs. Adair said that we need to handle the level 1 behaviors in the classroom

    - She wants us to use the 7 habits as often as possible

    -Mr. Chenoweth said to send home a 7 habits brochure after a discipline referral report is filled out so the parents can look over it

    - The brochure would be something that would be encouraging for the parents and the students

    - Have counselor follow up and fill out what habit they should specifically work on or need to grow in after discipline referral incidents

    - Ms. Portillo asked if teachers introduce what the form is and talk to students about the fact that they do not want a referral form.

    - Mrs. Adair said that was a great point and that all students should know what the form is and when it is used.

    - Teachers should discuss what an office discipline referral is and make sure students understand that they do NOT want to be sent to the office with a referral form
     

    7 Habits Parent Meeting

    - Parents should be aware that the meeting is Mandatory- one parent is required to be there
     

    Enrollment

    - Enrollment is at 551 we want it to be 558

    - Mr. Buck said that for every student we do not have we owe the district $3600 and we gain $3600 for every student that we do have

    - The teacher needs to let the parents know that if the children are not coming that the children will be withdrawn if they are in Pre-K or Kindergarten.
     

    Staffing

    - Mr. Buck said that we are still looking for a first grade teacher

    - He said that there will be three interviews tomorrow.
     
    Tutors
     
    -      Mr. Buck said that we have money for 5 tutors and are looking for 5 to hire.

    -      The grade level chairs will help in the interviewing of the tutors and there will be a tutor assigned to the grade level.

    -      Ms. Litweka and Honore will be coming back
     
    7 Habits

    -      There is a Parent meeting for 7 habits next week. One meeting will be in the morning and one will be in the evening for parents.

    -      Staff implementation day for the 7 Habits is next week.
     

    Instruction

    -      Mr. Buck said to make sure teachers are following up on rigor institute materials

    -      Students should be in their systems and routines by now and should already know how to line up.
     

    SSO

    -      The SSO has 15 schools

    -      Mr. Buck said that people will be doing walk throughs from the district, not weekly, but often to see how the school is doing.

    -      We will not get any TDS support this year because we met standards.

    -      Mr. Buck said that we met expectations

    -      Comparable growth was not where it should be, so we need to work on that

    -      Next year the results will include closing the gap and academically advanced
     

    TEA Accountability Summary

    -      Mr. Buck said that according to TEA we need to have 50% of students passing

    and 72%  of our students passed.  

    -      The index on growth of Hispanic students is 41 for Shearn and TEA’s expectation is 30.

    -      Closing the performance gaps- African American and Economically Disadvantaged are the lowest group- groups score is expected 600 and we earned 495

    -      Postsecondary readiness- how many kids will be at the highest achievement level

    -      Mr. Buck said that 383 test given and 284 were passing
     

    Mission Southwest

    -      Lucy Bell and Laura Peters are coming to meeting and helping out a lot at

    -      They have visited 20 churches and laminated brochures

    -      They are visiting 17 more churches

    -      It is a relationship building process

    -      They are trying to continue reaching out to churches

    -      Workday coming up in October at Shearn

    -      Mr. Buck said that volunteers can work on flower beds

    -      Mr. Chenoweth said that there will be a meeting on September 24, 2013.

    -      There will be a table at the Willow Meadows Block Party
     

    Willow Meadows

    -      Ms. Peters said that there is a Block party- September 20th at 6:30PM
     

    -      She made 600 flyers to pass out to the students.

    -      All families are welcome to attend the block party

    -      There will be free food!

    -      They have renovated one of the buildings at the church and one of the seminaries is going to be housed there. They attend the Houston Graduate School of Theology

     
    HeadStart

    -      Ms. Hernandez said that there have been major budget cuts.

    -      Most of the cuts were made within the district

    -      There was one classroom cut here at Shearn

    -      There are 4 teachers and 2 family development workers at Shearn

    -      The goal is to have 18 HeadStart students in each of the 4 classrooms

    -      This is one of the first years we have noticed over income to qualify

    -      They came across $0 to $100,000 in income

    -      Ms. Hernandez said that they are looking at 20 that are over income by $500 to $20,000.

    -      The allowable income for a parent and 2 kids is $14,000 to qualify for HeadStart

    -      HeadStart- health screenings will be this month- only keep documentation on the students who are HeadStart

    -      Parent meeting coming up and will stress attendance

    -      Health and vision screenings September 30th

     
    Texans Media School

    -      Students will receive gifts from the players/cheerleaders

    -      This will be happening later in September

     
    Parents

    -      Parents are getting together with an attorney on Saturday to get the 503c status

    -      Parents met last Friday and the meeting went very well

    -      There were about 20 parents to show up
