Attendance: Addressed by Mr. Buck. Attendance needs to be at 98%. Members
discussed possible incentives for classes. Free dress will be awarded to classes on
Fridays if their attendance is 99% for the week. Some members mentioned doing
something more individualized so that the students that come every day are not
penalized just because there are others in the class that are missing school. Members
decided that a certificate of attendance will be given to each individual student that has
perfect attendance after every attendance cycle (every 6 weeks). Teachers will pass out
the certificates the last day of the attendance cycle and may include a popcorn party or
other incentive for those after or during the certificate ceremony. Ms. Walker is looking
into purchasing Nooks for the upper grades and a Leapfrog tablet for the younger
grades that will be given away in a lottery of those that have perfect attendance every
    nine weeks.

Focus on Differentiation and Data: Official walk throughs will begin next week,
Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Every week there will be specific. Every week Mr. Buck
will put a key strategy and key focus areas in the Shearn Bulletin to make teachers
aware of what Mr. Buck will be looking for when he is observing. Mr. Buck reminded
everyone that reading and writing should be happening everyday not just during reading
and writing time, but also in all other content areas.

Discipline Referral: Mr. Buck introduced and shared Durham Elementary Discipline
Policies. Members read through and edited some of the language under discipline
procedures. Members agreed that the language and wording in their handbook was fit
and that we could adopt these new policies. Mr. Buck presented a new Discipline
Referral that teachers must fill out before sending a student to the office. Members
decided to add in guidance about previous actions taken by the teacher. Examples that
will be listed and included on the new Discipline Referral include behavior contract, sent
to other class, change student seat, and positive behavior support previously provided
by the teacher. The new discipline referral form and the Discipline Plan the following
    was decided by members:

    Administrator and in/out
    of school suspension with
    a parent conference prior
    to the student returning to
    class/school.

Activity Funds: Mr. Buck addressed funds for the school and the grade levels. STAR
shirts will be made for the upper grades and taken from the Major Shearn Fund. There
have been issues with returning library books. Members discussed incentives for
    bringing books back.

Mentors: Mr. Buck said that mentors will start Tuesday, September 18, 2012. He will
need assistance in coordinating and helping with mentors.

SIP: Mr. Buck mentioned that the SIP is being reviewed.

Time Clock: Shearn may move to a time clock rather than a sign in sheet to make
things more efficient and accurate. Another option mentioned might be a finger print
    system through People Soft.

New Hires: The new hires at Shearn Elementary were discussed. Ms. Elizabeth Kloskin
will be teaching the Kindergarten and first grade split class. Sonji Warren will be the new
resource teacher. Stephanie Orelana will be the new BSC TA. Pete Valtasaros is the
new part time security guard. Mr. Buck discussed hiring a new Assistant Principal. We
are looking for someone that is well-rounded and bi-lingual.

Social Studies: Mr. Gomez said that he will bring more updates after his first Social
    Studies Lead Teacher meeting.

Math: Mr. Jimenez discussed the computer lab and other computer issues with math
programs such as Timez Attack and ST Math because the computers are not
supporting the programs and the run time is very slow. Mrs. Spring said that she would
try to update the computers so that the run time is much faster and the computers are
    more efficient.

Testing/ Reading/ Writing/ESL: Mrs. Adair addressed that all of the BOYs have been
distributed and scantrons are being run. TPRI window has opened for 1st and 2nd grade
and  issues have been resolved with getting teachers signed up and ready to test.

Mission Houston: Ms. Peters discussed the Makeover Day, which is happening
September 29, 2012. We have concrete slabs to put in the main courtyard area. There
is also a mural that was made at fine arts camp over the summer and they would like to
hang it. Members should be thinking about other things that should be done on
Makeover Day. Some of the things that members brought up were fixing the walk way
going to fine arts and putting new mulch down. There is a teacher appreciation
breakfast October 22 that they will be sponsoring.

Willow Meadows: Ms. Peters discussed different efforts and donations that the church
is collecting. Members are continuing to donate uniforms and food for the kids.

Pre-K Conferences: Ms. Walker discussed having parent conferences for Pre-K
parents during spring registration about how to teach personal hygiene to their child
such as washing hands, pulling up clothes, zipping clothes etc.

Cafeteria: Mr. Buck discussed having parents eat at the back of the cafeteria with their
child. There will be tables at the back of the cafeteria for parents and children to sit.

Moving Rooms: Mr. Buck and Ms. Walker discussed that one of the Kindergarten
classes should be moved to the first corner room, Room 1, next school year. There is
an issue with parents walking their child into the class and not getting a pass at that
    door and for that classroom.

Field Trips: Mr. Buck reminded members that teacher can charge for field trips, but it
cannot be the reason why a student cannot attend a field trip. Other funds must be
available so that those students will still be able to come.
