    Attendance
The SDMC reviewed the attendance data for our group of schools under Mario Marquez and Shearn is one of the lowest schools for attendance and Mr. Buck stressed that we need to get the attendance up. The TAs will be calling parents and telling them to bring their students to school. If the parent says that their child is sick Mr. Buck said that we will start sending Ms. Walker to visit their house and take their temperature.
While TAs are calling out they cannot cover classes. Mr. Buck said that if there is not a substitute for a class that classes will have to be split until after the TAs are finished calling. When the TAs call it will also be important to stress to parents that if a student comes late that you can still bring them to school and they will be counted present. It was brought up that many parents do not bring their kids to school because their cars are broken. If parents say that their car is broken, then we will have to send someone from the school to come and pick up their child so that they will still come to school and be counted present. Angelica said that she and Kendra from Head Start can help with the calls and home visits for Pre-K students. It is imperative that we keep up with attendance.
    Safety
Ms. Walker said that Officer Lopez will be starting on March 24th and that Officer Lopez will be doing bullying presentations for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades on March 25th at 2PM. She also announced that the Kids with Character Luncheon for 1st and 2nd grades will be on March 27th. Mrs. Walker brought up the fact that parents are creating double lanes in the morning and sending kids across the 2 lanes of traffic. It is important that we get the traffic down to one lane and eliminate the 2 lanes that are occurring right now.

    Principal’s 200 Club
Mrs. Adair announced that there will be a reminder sent to teachers to send kids to the office with their Leaders in the Pride tickets at 1:00PM so that students’ parents can be called and the students can put up their paw prints.
    Review of School Wide Policies
Mrs. Adair passed out an updated version of the school wide policies. Mr. Buck suggested that there me a limited number of students in the restrooms at a time. He said that 4 students at a time would be a good number and that would be something to add to the school wide policies.

    Cafeteria Updates
Mr. Buck proposed the new dismissal procedures from the cafeteria that was brought up by the Lighthouse Team. The TAs will be distributed in 4 quadrants in the cafeteria. The TAs will stay in that quadrant so that they know the students that sit in that area and are able to give every teacher an accurate report of lunch time behavior. After spring break teachers will go into the cafeteria to dismiss their students and also to discuss behavior with the TA that was monitoring their class.
We will use Class Dojo as the platform to keep track of points. Each class will have a monster in our school’s Class Dojo. The goal points needed to get a reward (ice cream) will be 20 total points. Classes will only receive one lion/point per cafeteria visit. We are setting high expectations and holding our students accountable. If any table goes to red at any point, the class will not receive a point. If tables go to yellow, they must be back to green by the end or they will not receive a point. If all the classes tables are on green by the end of the period and no table went to red then the class will receive one point on Class Dojo. We will also be using the behavior reports that were used last year in the cafeteria. These will be used mostly for specific students who are misbehaving. This will be a great form of documentation for behavior, as well.
Also, students who are receiving these behavior reports should not partake in the class reward when it is reached. The scoreboard for Class Dojo will be displayed in the cafeteria, but you will also be able to access your own class’s points by using your "parent access code." Since teachers will be picking up their students from the cafeteria, it will be your or one of your student leader’s responsibility to grant your class the point. When you pick up your class, you will be informed or you can ask the teacher assistants in the cafeteria your class’s status. Then, using the iPad that will be set up in the cafeteria, you or your student leader can give the class a point. This may be an adjustment for many teachers, but it is our desire to make sure the students are rewarded for their leadership in the cafeteria and held accountable to our school’s high expectations. It will also allow the administration and staff to keep track of purchasing rewards and being consistent with distributing them. All of these cafeteria updates will be approved by the SDMC and was approved in this meeting on March 11.

    Finance
The SDMC members reviewed the activity funds. Mr. Buck reminded everyone that grade level money can be used for attendance incentives for popcorn or pizza parties. Mr. Buck also announced the reminder that grade level funds will be $200.00 per teacher and can only be used for intervention and not enrichment. The money has be spent by March 15th. Any of the leftover money will be spent on summer school. Mr. Buck announced that there may be a special SDMC meeting coming up to review the budget for next year.

    Construction
Mr. Buck asked if there were construction concerns and no one expressed any concerns.

    Lighthouse Team
Ms. Garson announced that the student lighthouse team has been working very hard on the Leadership Assembly for Friday. The students wrote and created their own skit by working creatively together as a team.

    TADs Update
HISD wants SDMC to give inputs on TADs. Mr. Buck read over the different options. They discussed that for the progress measures teachers set goals for all students and that would change to centralized goals that pre-populate and teachers would be using a pre-approved assessment tool.

    Staffing
Mr. Buck is continuing to look for a Dual Language Kindergarten teacher for next year. The administration has interviewed 2 potential candidates to fill bilingual teacher positions. There will be a new plant operator starting on March 17th. Ms. Begum will be a new teacher assistant starting after spring break on March 24th. There have been recommendations for J. Chavez for PE and O. Newkirk will be hired as the new Intermediate Teacher.

    Professional Development
Mr. Buck announced that for professional development teacher in-service days 4 out of the 9 days will be taken by the district. Teacher discussed using Ed Plan to help pinpoint objectives. Shearn will have 2 days for The Leader in Me (one for the entire staff and one for the Lighthouse Team). In addition, Dr. Tanner and Dr. Miller will be here on day to work on Cultural Responsive Training for the entire staff.

    Academics
Mr. Buck wants to make sure that everyone is focused on objectives, questioning, data, and differentiation. Teachers should be looking at data, interventions planning and differentiation. There will be a Dual Language dinner on Wednesday, March 26 where all of the kindergarten teachers and administrators will be able to go and discuss updates for the HISD Dual Language program.

    Mission Southwest
Mr. Chenoweth announced that Mission Southwest has approved 500 shirts for the Work Day that will be on March 29, 2014. The group has proposed a recipe for success program and Mr. Chenoweth announced that there is new leadership in Mission Southwest
