SUMMER OF INNOVATION 2013
Burbank Middle School's Third Summer of Innovation began on June 11, 2013. This summer camp serves as a transition activity for incoming sixth graders as well as providing an opportunity for our current robotics students to mentor and give back to the community. For the following fourteen days students and teachers were engaged in fun activities in science, technology, math, horticulture, and robotics. The day began with breakfast in the cafeteria and then to three different classes per day which were packed with fun activities using the latest technology. The third week was full of excitement as we visited the Museum of Natural Science for a Scavenger Hunt and prepared for the Robotics Tournament and Rocket Launching of the last day of camp.
At the conclusion of the Tournament, the awards were given in the following areas: Mathematics, Technology, Science, Horticulture, Rocket Design, Robot Design, and Robot Performance. Here are pictures of the winners:
Burbank Middle School and the Magnet Program were able to keep the camp at no cost to our students. In addition, we were very lucky to have enjoyed the sponsorship of the PTO and Hunt and Hunt LTD. They made it possible for the horticulture students to create the new vegetable bed as well as be able to have our new Robotics shirts. Thank you so much for your sponsorship! Many parents accompanied us on June 28th as we said goodbye for the summer. We hope to have that many and more in years to come. Until then, see you next year!
