SUMMER OF INNOVATION
SUMMER CAMP
Burbank Middle School's Summer Camp was designed as an enriching activity for students who are transitioning from their elementary school to our campus. It began under the umbrella of NASA's Summer of Innovation which focused on STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics- and it continues to have that focus today.
Some of our seventh and eighth students participate in the camp as teacher assistants, helping in technology and robotics. Our summer camp participants spend four fun and exciting hours each day for three weeks exploring science, technology, and math as well as building robots using the Lego League Mindstorms kits. They also have breakfast and lunch at school.
Halfway though the camp, there is a field trip to the Museum of Natural Science, and at the end of the camp there is a robotics tournament and project exhibition and presentation. Parents and siblings are invited to attend and participate in the end-of-camp celebration.
