FLL TOURNAMENT
The SUBMERGED Season
Our Eaglebots Robotics Team will make their way to West Brazos Junior High School on Saturday, December 14, 2024 to participate in the First Lego League Qualifier Tournament for the Submerged Season. This FLL Tournament is an example of the opportunities that teams from different regions in the United Sates and throughout the world have to build and program robots that can manage to fulfill several challenges associated with issues that affect our world. Those teams then get together and show what they have learned through their robots' performance. Meeting as well as competing with students from other schools, districts, and backgrounds is an excellent opportunity for our students to grow in their understanding of their world. Watch this short video to learn about this year's challenge.
Our team, the Eaglebots, is made up of five robotics students: Gael Alvear, Justin Herrera, Benjamin Perez, Ethan Martinez, and Natalia Sanchez. All the team members are sixth graders and came to Burbank from Janowski, Herrera, Kennedy, and Humble elementary schools. They have been working very hard during their robotics class as well as after school, putting together their robot, programming it, and creating their presentation.
The team is evaluated on their project, the robot performance, their teamwork, as well as the overriding principle of FIRST, which is "gracious professionalism". That is defined as "a way of doing things that encourages quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community". We are proud to say that our students always meet and exceed expectations in that aspect of their participation. Our team will be traveling to Brazoria, Texas, with their teacher and coach, Dr. Alexandra Vitela.
