    2022 COMPETITION

    At the competition

As a part of this year’s Computer Science Education Week, Houston ISD presented its second annual Holiday Hackathon, powered by Schlumberger , last December 9, 2022. The STEM competition was held at Attucks Middle School from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burbank sent a team of 30 robotics and technology students who were accompanied by two parents, Mrs. Maria Tavarez and Mrs. Savica Gonzalez, as well as their teachers, Mrs. Devin Garcia and Dr. Alexandra Ortiz. Click on the teacher's names to see the list of students participating.

    Working on the program

Once they got to the competition, they found that their mission was to use a Microsoft Micro:bit to create a warning device that would alert the user of extreme temperatures. Part of the device had to include a cuff to hold the sensor. The program had to be able to detect when the sensor was shaken, detect the temperature, and play a warning following specific temperature parameters. They tested the sensor in a freezer as well as near a heater. Our students were competing with students from West Briar, Fonville MS, and Baylor College of Medicine at Ryan MS, and we're very proud to report that one of our teams won first place! The winning team members are: Catalina Perez, Ariadna Gomez, Miranda Salinas, and Abel Tavarez.
