Lone Star E.A.R.L.Y. Tournament
On February 2, 2019, Burbank Middle School became the center for E.A.R.L.Y Robotics by sponsoring the Lonestar Robotics Tournament on campus. Twenty one teams from as far away as China participated in the event. Several HISD Elementary Schools and independent home-schooled students also participated. These were the schools and their teams:
- Harvard Elementary: Dodo's, A380s, WAF, Legomasters, Screaming Asparagus, and Unicorns
- Patterson Elementary: Robo Paws, Robo Bots, Robo Sharks, Robo Panthers, Black Panthers
- Southmayd Elementary: Cougar Bots 1, 2, 3 and 4
- Browning Elementary: Megabots, Troopbots, Heapbots, Cosmobots, and Mobbots
- ET: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Theta, Sigma, and Omega
- China: LeXT1 and 2
The competition began early in the morning and extended past 3:00 pm. Some of our Robotics students worked as judges and scorers. These were: Jacqueline Lopez, Kendra Ramirez, Leah Hernandez, Yaritza Mendoza, Jackelyn Mayo, Ronaldo Chavez, Anderson Guevara, Ernesto Valle, and Rosa Linares. The tournament was organized and supervised by Mr. Lucien Junkin who is the Robotics Engineer over at NASA in Clear Lake.
In the end, the winning team was China LeXT 1. The Harvard Teams gave them a run for their money, but they faltered a bit in the final round. They will have the opportunity to try again in the May tournament. Congratulations to the winners and all the participants!
