SECOND HOUSTON E.A.R.L.Y.
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTBurbank Middle SchoolSPRING TOURNAMENTTeams started arriving early at Burbank Middle School on May 26th. It was the day when the Second Houston E.A.R.L.Y. Championship Tournament would take place and everyone was getting ready. There were 18 teams competing from 6 different schools: Robinson E. S. of Global Studies, Kate Bell E.S., Garden Oaks E.S., Lulu M. Stevens E.S., Mark Twain E.S. and the defending champions Harvard E.S. In all, more than 200 parents, students, and coaches came ready to show their "right stuff".After the opening ceremonies where Cynthia Juarez sang the National Anthem, all teams went back to their pits with the exception of the first four teams who got ready for the first match. The matches took place very quickly so that by 1:00 pm we were getting ready for the semifinals. Harvard Elementary was deep in the game with three of their teams in the finals. However, a rookie team from Robinson Elementary was showing promise, getting sharper as the day progressed. In the end, it was Harvard's Super Moo Moo Boss Cows VS Robinson's Robotosaurus Rex. It went to the wire, with each team winning one final match. In the end, we had the upset of the day! The Robinson team managed to edge the Harvard team and was proclaimed the Second Houston E.A.R.L.Y. Championship Tournament Champions! Here are the winners:

Mr. Lucien Junkin, Founder of E.A.R.L.Y. here in Houston, was on hand to present a special gift of an E.A.R.L.Y. kit to Kate Bell Elementary, winners of the Spirit of E.A.R.L.Y. Award. Many thanks to Andres Abrego, a student at Booker T. Washington HS for Engineering Professions, who took care of the scorekeeping and computer issues. Mr. Juan Salinas, who is a Robotics Education Specialist at NASA, provided us with the equipment we need to put on the tournament, such as video cameras and giant screens, for which we are very grateful. And thank you to Mr. Michael Grahmann and his crew of roboticians who ran the tournament without a glitch! We are certainly looking forward to the Third Houston E.A.R.L.Y. Championship Tournament which will be held next December. Until then, enjoy our pictures!
