  • Cage

Here is some advice for you: Never pet a dog in a cage. I will tell you why. My aunt just one day brought a dog into the family. At that time, my siblings were asking for a dog.

“Mom, I want a pet. Can we get one?” we said to my mom.     My mom just said one thing and one thing only, “Are you going to take care of it?”

We all said no and walked away disappointed. So, when my aunt got a dog for us, we were so happy that my sister ran to the dog and started playing with it. Every day my grandma would put the dog in a cage every time that she got annoyed by the dog.

My aunt would just say “Don’t go over there” every time that we got close to it.

I tried to get close to the dog but either my mom, aunt, or grandma would catch me. The one time I got close to it, the dog bit me when I tried to pet him. He left a bite mark on my hand, but no blood came out or anything. My aunt, my grandma, and my mom came to see what happened.

A few days later, the dog left. My aunt told us that the dog had been given away.

And that is why you should never pet a dog in a cage.

  • New Things

    by Jasmine Garcia

Have you ever been afraid of trying new things? Well, so have I. For a bit of context, one day, when I was about 5 or 6, my parents had called me and my twin sister outside.

The first thing we did was walk outside to see our parents standing outside with our bikes. The only difference was that they no longer had the training wheels on them. Once I got on the bike, I immediately got extremely nervous since I had never once ridden my bike without training wheels before. Once I got on it, all I did was just sit on it. I didn’t move at all. The only thoughts I had were: “I’m gonna fall,” or “I can’t do this.”

After a few minutes of my parents convincing me, I finally tried to ride the bike. When I tried riding the bike, I fell almost immediately. Luckily, I never hit the ground. Either I caught myself or my parents did. Though almost falling made me reluctant to keep on trying to ride the bike properly, I kept trying.

After many attempts, and slow progress, I finally managed to learn how to ride the bike. After I learned how to ride the bike, I felt incredibly happy. I started to ride around everywhere. I was kinda like a little kid who had too much sugar, but instead it was just pure adrenaline since I almost fell before, and I was still feeling a little nervous on the bike.

This experience was very important to me because it taught me to not let fear stop me from trying new things, especially things that I may come to enjoy. Not only that, but it was a time when I used to live in my old house. It brings back many beautiful memories, and it reminds me of when my family had more time to spend with one another. I don’t think people should let new things scare them. In fact, people should embrace trying new things; it might prove to be something nice.
